In 1961, following her husband's election as President of the United States, Jackie Kennedy became the First Lady. S.T. Dupont lighters, prestigious items, were then a diplomatic gift of choice.
This was the gift chosen by André Malraux, then Minister of Cultural Affairs under General de Gaulle, who, in 1962, presented the First Lady with a gold Line 1 lighter adorned with a discreet golden "J". Deeply touched, she developed a strong attachment to this elegant object, both functional and intimate.
Nearly ten years later, S.T. Dupont received a special order: Jackie Onassis Kennedy wanted a ballpoint pen to match her lighter. The company did not manufacture writing instruments, but decided to take on the challengeTHE WORLD'S FIRST LUXURY PEN
